PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electric discharge lamp including a non-linear ceramics capacitor so as to be able to stop generation of a pulse voltage perfectly at the time of no ignition. SOLUTION: A starter composed of a starting auxiliary electrode 2 provided with thermally responding switches 3a, 3b on its both ends, a non-linear ceramics capacitor 4, a current damper 5 and a semiconductor switch 6 is connected in parallel to an arc tube 1. In this case, a heating resistor body 11 connected in parallel to the starter and capable of heating the temperature of the non- linear ceramics capacitor 4 up to a curie temperature at the operation of starter is arranged facing close by 3±2mm to the non-linear ceramics capacitor 4 and also a ratio of the volume of the non-linear ceramics capacitor to the power consumption of the heating resister is set to 110-305mm<3> /w. |
