<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve handling performance in a printing operation by calculating an amount of remaining recording paper in a paper feed cassette from the number of recording sheets of paper. SOLUTION: The paper feed mechanism for an image forming device is equipped with a lifter, on which the paper feed cassette having a stack of recording sheets in it is provided. It calculates, (step S306), the number of recording sheets, Py, remaining in the paper feed cassette 1 by obtaining the number of pulses, (t), caused by the drive of a pulse motor which is necessary for the movement of the lifter per recording sheet, from the number of pulses, X0, by the drive of the pulse motor which is necessary for the movement of the lifter, and the number of sheets, Y0, which are fed. In the case the number of the remaining recording sheets, Py, is not sufficient for user's demand for paper feed, the user can be informed of information about it by visually giving a warning by means of a display device, therefore handling performance improves.</p> |
