In a continuously variable transmission device a variator (not shown) has a pair of pulley sheaves (not shown), one being fixed and the other movable in an axial direction with respect to the fixed sheave. The sheaves are moved axially by the action of a weight roller assembly ( not shown). During use the weight roller and sheaves are subject to wear and friction levels between the parts increases. In order to reduce friction the weight roller comprises a pair of independently movable bearing elements 1 which are situated within a channel in one of the pulley sheaves 8. A shaft 2 passes through the bearings and clearance is provided between it and the sheave 8. The second sheave 3 has an indented profile 6 which contacts the axle. Various permutations of pulleys and axles in differing relative diameters are also disclosed in figures 1-4. The objective being to reduce contact area and friction. |
