摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the cholesteric liquid crystal layer which has superior visual angle characteristics by setting the wavelength of linear polarized light showing a maximum value of the degree of polarization below a specific wavelength, and then suppressing the visible coloration in the oblique view direction while improving the luminance of the liquid crystal display device, etc. SOLUTION: The cholesteric liquid crystal layer 1 is added to a supporting material 11. The liquid crystal layer 1 has circular polarization dichromatism of a wavelength range above 50 nm and wavelength light of 520 nm is included in the wavelength range of the circular polarization dichromatism. When reflected or transmitted light with the circular polarization dichromatism is passed through a 1/4 wavelength plate to obtain linear polarized light, the liquid crystal layer 1 shows the polarization degree characteristic that the wavelength of the linear polarized light in the visible light region showing the maximum value of the degree of polarization is <=520 nm. As for preferable polarization degree characteristic, the degree of polarization is >=2% larger on the visible short wavelength side where the integration of the degree of polarization of the linear polarized light is below a wavelength of 520 nm, i.e., 400 to 520 nm than on the visible long wavelength side where it is a wavelength of >520 nm, i.e., 520 to 700 nm.
