<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a newly improved receptacle like an adapter for receiving an optical fiber connector along its optical axis. SOLUTION: A receptacle 12 for receiving an optical fiber connector having a ferrule projecting forward along its optical axis 20 is provided. This receptacle 12 is equipped with a housing 14 having an open end 16 for receiving the optical fiber connector inserted along the optical axis 20. A shutter 28 is pivoted on the housing nearby the open end 16 and rotates to open and close the open end 16. The shutter 28 when shut extends across the optical axis 20. The shutter 28 pivotally rotates leaving the optical axis 20 when the inserted optical fiber connector engages the shutter. Further, the shutter 28 includes a connector engagement external surface 42 having a hollow area 44 for receiving the ferrule projecting in front of the optical fiber connector 50.</p> |
