<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a glow plug with a built-in controller having a simple structure, being small, and having high durability, in which the glow plug having a built-in heating element that produces heat by energization is integrated with the controller for controlling opening and closing of the energization to the heating element. <P>SOLUTION: The controller 4 includes: a semiconductor open/close element that, at least, is located downstream the heating element 10 and configured by an earthed n-channel MOSFET; and a downstream drive circuit that drives the semiconductor open/close element in an open/close manner in accordance with a drive signal SI.
