PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a manufacturing method of a thermoelectric conversion material using a clathrate compound suitable for a thermoelectric conversion element and excellent in thermoelectric conversion characteristics. SOLUTION: A manufacturing method of a thermoelectric material includes: a process of preparing fine particles containing a clathrate compound; a first cleaning process of cleaning the fine particles with acid; a second cleaning process of cleaning the fine particles with pure water after the first cleaning process; and a sinter process of sintering the fine particles after the second cleaning process. Preferably, the process of preparing the fine particles includes: a melting process of melting and molding powders containing at least one of Ba and Ga to form an ingot including the clathrate compound; and a pulverization process of pulverizing the ingot to obtain the fine particle.
