The present invention relates to a novel chlorin e6 monomethyl ester, a manufacturing method thereof and use thereof. The chlorin e6 monomethyl ester of the present invention is denoted by chemical formula 1 or 2 and is included in a composition for treating or preventing cancers as an active ingredient. The manufacturing method of the chlorin e6 monomethyl ester comprises the steps of (a) obtaining a chlorophlle extract solution from Spirulina; (b) obtaining pheophytin by adding an acid to the chlorophlle extract solution and making the same react with each other; (c) and synthesizing sodium salt of chlorin e6 by treating a base to the pheophytin.
