PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To ensue a stable conveyance of a recording medium by a method wherein a time period from the time when a tip of the recording medium is detected by a sensor section provided in the vicinity of a fixing means to the time when an amount of bending of the recording medium at a portion between the fixing means and a transferring means reaches a predetermined level is measured, and the conveyance speed of the recording medium is varied based on the measured result. SOLUTION: A conveyance speed of a recording medium P at a fixing device 18 is set lower than that at a transferring section (transferring rollers 14a-14d). A time period from the time when the tip of the recording medium P is detected by a paper discharge sensor 3 provided in the vicinity of the fixing device 18 to the time when a loop sensor 1 provided between the fixing device 18 and the transferring section detects the fact that an amount of the recording medium P exceeds a predetermined level is measured. A magnitude of a difference between speeds of the recording medium P at the fixing device 18 and transferring section is calculated based on the measured time period. A value for varying the conveyance speed of the recording medium at the fixing device 18 is obtained from the magnitude of the speed difference, then the conveyance speed at the fixing device 18 is varied. As a result, an amount of loop of the recording medium P is maintained in a constant level, thereby a stable conveyance of the recording medium P can be attained.
