PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and a method for manufacturing a hollow shaft having a seam in the longitudinal direction. SOLUTION: The method is for welding a shaft having an open seam demarcated between edge parts in the longitudinal direction and facing each other, and includes a step in which the shaft is passed along the axial line in the longitudinal direction through the arrays of a pressurizing rollers which pressurizes the shaft by giving a radial force to the shaft inward by making arrays contact with the surface of the shaft at plural and different points. The seam is welded by an assembly part of the electric resistance welding while the shaft is closed by the pressurizing rollers.
