PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lead-based alloy obtained by improving the publicly known Pb-Ca-Sn-Al alloy for a lead storage battery, having good corrosion resistance and initial mechanical strength and undergoing very little deterioration of the mechanical strength even when it is exposed to a high temperature for a long period of time. SOLUTION: The lead-based alloy for a lead storage battery consists of 0.04-0.10 wt.% of calcium, 0.80-2.00 wt.% of tin, 0.01-0.03 wt.% of aluminum, 0.001-0.020 wt.% of barium, 0.0005-0.05 wt.% of at least one metal selected from thallium and magnesium and the balance of lead.
