An organic EL device (10) is provided with: a substrate (11); a bank layer that is provided with an opening (14c) having a long and narrow shape in a planar view; and an organic material-containing functional layer (15), which is provided in the opening (14c), and which has a long and a narrow shape in a planar view. The bank layer has: first banks (14a), which are respectively positioned on both the sides of the functional layer (15) in the lateral direction of the functional layer, and which extend in the longitudinal direction of the functional layer (15); and second banks, which are respectively positioned on both the sides of the functional layer (15) in the longitudinal direction of the functional layer, and which extend in the lateral direction of the functional layer (15). An angle (&thetas;2) formed between a slope surface of each of the second banks and an upper surface of the substrate (11) is larger than an angle (&thetas;1) formed between a slope surface (14a1) of each of the first banks (14a) and the upper surface of the substrate (11). |
