摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical navigation device that can sense the movement of an object so that the movement can control a feature section of a consumer digital device.SOLUTION: A device 20 includes a substrate 22 to which an LED 24, a reflector 26 and an image sensor 34 are attached. Light emitted from the LED 24 is directed by the elliptical reflector 26 toward and through a window 28 that is transparent to the light emitted from the LED 24 and then is reflected off from a user's finger back through the window 28, through a lens 32, and onto the image sensor 34. The reflector 26 is positioned to direct light toward the window 28 at an oblique angle (the range of 65 to 70 degrees from an angle vertical to the window). Further, the reflector 26 is curved to gather light across a large solid angle in the vicinity of the LED 24. The curved shape of the reflector 26 may be part of an ellipsoid and the LED 24 may be located at one of focal points of the ellipsoid, with the window 28 located at the other focal point of the ellipsoid.
