PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projection type image display device of a small size and light weight in which image deviation does not occur on a screen even when a shock or vibration is applied.SOLUTION: The projection type image display device generates (210) a positional correction amount corresponding to a detected acceleration (G) and corrects (220, 250) a compound image signal to be used for modulation by an optical modulator on the basis of a positional correction amount (M) so that the display position of an image on a screen is corrected. For example, the image display device adjusts the timing of starting a vertical effective period on the basis of a vertical positional correction amount, and adjusts the timing of starting a horizontal effective period on the basis of a horizontal positional correction amount.
