摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a transflective liquid crystal display element with which high speed response characteristic is obtained, and which has superior display quality, even if it is driven with a low voltage. <P>SOLUTION: In the transflective liquid crystal display device having a pair of substrates, a liquid crystal cell with a liquid crystal layer interposed between the substrates, and polarizing plates and optically anisotropic layers disposed on respective outsides of the liquid crystal cell, wherein a reflective display region and a transmissive display region are provided for each pixel, optical characteristics of the optically anisotropic layer disposed on the viewer's side satisfy a mathematical formula 1 and optical characteristics of the optically anisotropic layer, disposed on the backlight side, satisfy a mathematical formula 2, wherein the mathematical formula 1 comprises 25 nm<Re1<55 nm, and 100 nm<Rth1<400 nm, and the mathematical expression 2 comprises 33 nm<Re2<63 nm, and 100 nm<Rth2<500 nm, and Re1 and Re2 are in-plane retardation values and Rth1 and Rth2 are retardation values in the thickness direction. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
