PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an endoscope capable of preventing a possibility of interference between a built-in element of an insertion section and the front end of an operation wire from increasing, while reducing the overall length of a first segment, and of curving a curving section at a large angle without changing a maximum rotation angle between adjacent segments. SOLUTION: The endoscope includes: a first segment 37 provided inside a hard tip section 17 forming a tip of the insertion section 12, with the rear end of the first segment defining the rear end of the hard tip section 17; a second segment 40 provided inside a flexible curving section and rotatably connected to the first segment 37 by means of rotating connection shafts 48 to 54 extending in the radial direction of the insertion section 12, the flexible curving section being located directly behind the hard tip section 17 and forming a portion of the insertion section 12; and operation wires 56, 57 disposed inside an operation section and the insertion section 12, with the front ends of the operation wires locked to a locking section 38 provided at the first segment 37 and the rear ends of the operation wires locked to a curving operation means provided at the operation section.
