<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce power consumption by stopping the power supplied to enclosures that are not being accessed. <P>SOLUTION: A plurality of additional enclosures 2 are daisy chained to a base enclosure 1. The respective additional enclosures 2 are divided into a low use frequency level, a medium use frequency level, and a high use frequency level depending on the connection distance of the additional enclosures 2 from the base enclosure 1. Drives 2B that have not been accessed for a predetermined time are spun down. When all the drives in the enclosure are spun down, the supply of power from the power supply 2C to the respective drives 2B is stopped.
