<p>A method of inhibiting an automatic engine stop in an automotive system (100, fig.1) provided with a controller (450, fig.1) for automatically stopping and starting an internal combustion engine (110, fig.1), and an electric steering system (625, fig.2), wherein an automatic engine stop is inhibited S740 if a supply current (Isuppl) for the electric steering system (625) or if a change of the steering angle is detected S720 during a steering maneuver. Additionally whenever an engine autostop is required an electronic latch (flip-flop) is activated S730 if the conditions are met and the automatic engine stop is deactivated, the autostop being enabled again when the latch is deactivated S760 due to an increase in speed above a predetermined threshold (S760). An advantage of the system is that no additional sensors are required beyond what would already exist for such apparatus.</p> |
