A wire wound resistor and a manufacturing method thereof are provided to reduce a manufacturing cost by simplifying a structure of a heat dissipation housing. A wire wound resistor comprises a wire wound resistor element(100), a pair of secondary insulating plates(200), and a heat dissipation housing(300). The wire resistor element includes an insulation bobbin(110), a pair of metal terminals(120), and a pair of the lead wires(130). A wound part is formed in a center of the insulating bobbin. A resistance wire(R) is wounded in the wound part. The metal terminal fixes an end part of the resistance wire. The lead wire is fixed in the metal terminal. The wound resistor element is arranged between a pair of secondary insulating plates. A hollow penetrates both sides of the heat dissipation housing. An opening is formed on both sides of the heat dissipation housing. The wound resistor element is loaded in the hollow of the heat dissipation housing. The lead wire is drawn through the opening of the heat dissipation housing.
