PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately identify an abnormal portion of an AC machine driving apparatus by identifying an abnormal portion of a converter and an abnormal portion of an inverter by means having no correlation between the converter and the inverter.SOLUTION: The AC machine driving apparatus includes: a converter circuit which converts an AC voltage from an AC power supply into a DC voltage; an inverter circuit which converts the DC voltage outputted from the converter circuit into an AC voltage by a switching element and connected to an AC machine; and a diagnosis device for diagnosing abnormality of the converter circuit, the inverter circuit, and the AC machine, or the connection. The diagnosis device successively performs a first step for diagnosing abnormality of the converter circuit, a second step for diagnosing a short-circuit failure of the switching element of the inverter circuit, and a third step for diagnosing an open failure of the switching element of the inverter circuit and abnormality of the AC machine or the connection.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 28
