The present invention relates to a method and an apparatus for recognizing an accessory in an electronic device to recognize the type of an accessory connected to an interface unit. According to embodiments of the present invention, the apparatus can comprise: the interface unit for connecting an accessory; a detection unit for detecting the connection to the accessory; a first signal generation unit which generates a particular frequency signal when the connection to the accessory is detected, and applies the signal to an identification terminal in the interface unit; a conversion unit for converting an analog signal inputted through the identification terminal into a digital signal; and a control unit for recognizing the type of the connected accessory based on the converted digital signal.
