Plant.-Adevice for separating petrol, oil, tar, and the like from the waste water of garages comprises a cast iron receptacle divided into three compartments by vertical partitions B, C, D. The waste water enters the receptacle through apertures G in the cover and is filtered through soft coke in a tray with a perforated bottom supported on projections H in the first compartment. The liquid after overflowing into a second compartment is further filtered through coke in a similar tray supported on a projection L and is discharged from the third compartment to the sewer through an outlet A. The coke attracts and absorbs petrol, oil &c. and heavier matter is collected in a tray with an imperforate base placed below the filter tray in the first compartment. A slot N in the top of the rib B allows of the escape of gases and prevents air lock.</p> |
