<p>#CMT# #/CMT# The drive has a brake device including brake levers (5, 6) with a compression spring (2) that exert a spring force to move brake linings (13, 16) to cause a braking force on a brake drum (14). A brake magnet (4) lifts the brake levers against the spring force, and includes a switch for monitoring a minimum distance between a plunger of the brake magnet and a brake magnet housing. The switch is arranged on a brake magnet rod, and executes movement of the brake magnet rod relative to the brake magnet housing. #CMT# : #/CMT# An independent claim is also included for a method for the construction of an elevator drive. #CMT#USE : #/CMT# Elevator drive. #CMT#ADVANTAGE : #/CMT# The simple construction of the drive realizes end-position monitoring. The drive facilitates direct switch off of the drive, before the brake fails or before the occurrence of dangerous condition for the users of the elevator.
