1. A method of forming a film for delivery of a therapeutic agent comprising:
passing a first solution containing at least one hydrophobic polymer and a chlorinated solvent, and a second solution containing at least one water-soluble therapeutic agent and a second solvent that is different from the chlorinated solvent through a spray nozzle to generate first droplets of the first solution and second droplets of the second solution such that solubility of the at least one water-soluble therapeutic agent is not limited by the at least one hydrophobic polymer; depositing the first and second droplets on an inert fabrication substrate to form at least one layer; drying the first and second droplets to form an implantable self-supporting film; and separating the implantable self-supporting film from the inert fabrication substrate prior to implantation, wherein the implantable self-supporting film displays a Young's Modulus of about 500 kPa to about 100 MPa and the therapeutic agent represents from about 800 μg/cm2 to about 50 mg/cm2 of the implantable self-supporting film. |
