Provided are a cold storage medium for increasing heat exchange efficiency and a cold storage type refrigerator provided with the cold storage medium. A first stage cold storage medium (30) and a second stage cold storage medium (60) are cold storage media having a lamination structure used in a GM refrigerator (1). Each layer of the cold storage media is provided with a plurality of holes through which gas can pass according to a lamination direction. At least one layer includes a substrate and a coating layer covering the substrate. The volumetric specific heat of the coating layer is larger than that of the substrate in the temperature range from 20K to 40K.
