The present invention relates to a method and a system for changing a drive mode in a situation that a battery discharge power of a hybrid vehicle is limited. The method for changing the drive mode when the battery discharge power of the hybrid vehicle driven by an engine and a driving motor according to an embodiment of the present invention comprises the steps of: checking operation of the driving motor and a limited state of discharge power of a battery; checking whether it is needed to change into a drive mode which needs operation of the engine under a condition that the driving motor is operated and discharge power of the battery is limited; preferentially supplying available power of the battery to a start motor to operate the start motor when it is needed to change into the drive mode which needs operation of the engine; and controlling the engine to make the start motor perform a charging action, controlling the start motor for synchronization of an engine clutch and controlling operation of the driving motor within the range of available power of the battery when the engine finishes starting by operation of the start motor, so as to complete the change into the drive mode.
