The present invention provides a method for treating wastewater containing ammonia nitrogen, in which an entire nitrification reaction to convert ammonia nitrogen to nitrate nitrogen via nitrite nitrogen is promoted by allowing nitrifying bacteria to perform the nitrification reaction in the presence of an intermicrobial signaling molecule.

1. A method for treating wastewater containing ammonia nitrogen by biological nitrogen removal reaction by using a wastewater treatment apparatus, wherein the wastewater treatment apparatus comprises a nitrification tank and a denitrification tank, comprising:
performing an entire nitrification reaction to convert ammonia nitrogen to nitrate nitrogen via nitrite nitrogen by nitrifying bacteria in the nitrification tank; and performing an entire denitrification reaction to convert nitrate nitrogen to nitrogen gas via nitrite nitrogen by denitrifying bacteria in the denitrification tank, wherein the entire nitrification reaction and/or the entire denitrification reaction is performed in the presence of a culture medium or a culture broth in which a microorganism producing an intermicrobial signaling molecule is cultured, or in the presence of an extract solution or a concentrated solution.
