The present invention provides a detailed system and method of burning gaseous, liquid or solid fuel in a system that either reduces or does not require any external electrical input that traditional heating systems normally require. The method mainly consists of a conventional turbocharger unit converted to a simplified gas turbine engine as part of a turbo compound system. A turbo compound defined in this patent normally consists of a turbocharged turbine system exceeding its compressor power consumption where this excess is used to produce extra-power to the shaft of internal combustion piston engines. For this new method and application, the turbo compound system is combined with a fuel burner instead of an internal combustion piston engine. The turbo compound plus burner is used to supply mechanical/ electrical energy to heating systems especially to drive fans/ pumps used for pumping fluids through heat exchangers to transfer heat for specific processes. The burner integrated to the system can be external or internal to the turbo system. The system is relatively inexpensive since it uses mass production components. Because of the few moving parts, the system is extremely reliable and can operate for extensive periods of time without any maintenance requirements. Several different applications replacing traditional combustion heating systems are presented.
|
