PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pharmaceutical composition for the treatment, diagnosis, or prognosis of skin disease which comprises as an active ingredient a therapeutic compound which acts as a recombinant serine protease inhibitor or a serine protease inhibitor.SOLUTION: Several serine proteases including kallikrein, urokinase, plasmin, tryptase-like and neutrophile elastase enzymes are expressed in epidermis. These serine proteases are involved in epidermal cell proliferation, cell differentiation, skin and lipid barrier homeostasis and tissue remodeling, and involved in proteolysis of corneodesmosomes which is a crucial event prior to shedding of the outermost skin layer. Because increased protease activity, including kallikrein, plasmin and urokinase enzymes are implicated in inflammatory reactions of the skin, the invention provides a biologically active fragment having a serine protease inhibitor or a serine protease inhibitor activity as an active ingredient in the pharmaceutical composition for the treatment, diagnosis, or a prognosis of a skin disease. |
