摘要 The present invention relates to a method and a system for authenticating a user using iris characteristics. More specifically, the method includes the steps of: inputting, by an input unit, an image including an eyeball of a user; extracting, by an iris extracting unit, an iris area in the eyeball of the user from the inputted image; setting, by an interest area setting unit, an interest area in the extracted iris area; filtering, by a filtering unit, the interest area by each band through an nonsubsampled contourlet transformation (NSCT) to generate an NSCT coefficient by each band of the interest area; binarizing, by a binarizing unit, the NSCT coefficient generated by each band of the interest area; generating, by a template generating unit, an iris code template displaying iris characteristics of the user based on the binarized NSCT; and comparing, by a user authenticating unit, the iris code template and a prestored reference iris code template and performing authentication for the user according to the comparison results, thereby accurately expressing the characteristics of a pattern in the iris of the user using the NSCT coefficient generated through the NSCT.
