<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a low-cost cultivation method for a plant of the genus Glycyrrhiza capable of easily retaining at least 0.5 cm of the roots and at least 2.5% of glycyrrhizin contents based on reference values adopted in the Japanese Pharmacopoeia in a short period without depending on weather. <P>SOLUTION: A plant of the genus Glycyrrhiza is planted on a field in which a dry environment adapted to the plant of the genus Glycyrrhiza is created by controlling rainfall amount and percolation water of underground water or rainfall. The roots of the plant are wrought and bound by a wringing/binding mechanism in advance or in the process of growth, and the plant is continuously grown in this state on the field where the dry environment is created while stresses are continuously applied to the roots of the plant.
