In this hollow strain wave gearing unit (1), a shaft end part (4b) of a hollow rotary shaft (41) of a wave generator (4) is located inside a cup-shaped flexible external gear (3). The shaft end part (4b) is supported by a bearing (11) attached to a bearing holder (10) that is fixed to a boss (33) of the flexible external gear (3). In the bearing holder (10), an elastic leaf spring part (102) that is displaceable in the axial direction (1a) constitutes a part that supports a holder body part (103) that holds the bearing (11). A preload is applied by the leaf spring part (102) to the bearing (11) in the axial direction. Thus, there is no need to separately arrange a preload application member inside the flexible external gear (3), and the axial length of the hollow strain wave gearing unit (1) can be shortened.
