摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface treatment method for stably forming a carbon film having high durability on the surface of a metal material. SOLUTION: There is provided a method for treating the surface of a metal material through the first and second processes in this order. The first process comprises a step of imparting a compressive residual stress to the surface layer of the metal material. The second process sequentially includes: a nanocarbon film-forming step of forming on the surface of the metal material, a nanocarbon film comprising at least one nanocarbon selected from the group consisting of carbon nano-coil, carbon nanotube and carbon nano-filament by heat-treating the metal material together with an organic gas under the nitriding condition by which a nitride layer is formed on the surface layer of the metal material; a fullerenes-coating step of coating fullerenes on the surface of the nanocarbon film; and a burning step of heating the metal material on which the carbon film is formed at a temperature of≥400°C.
