<p>Methods are provided to increase the level of xyloglucan levels in plant cell walls, including secondary plant cell walls as they can be found in natural fibers or fiber producing plants by expression of a xyloglucan glycotransferase or combined expression of xyloglucan glycotransferase and xyloglucan xylotransferease. The increased xyloglucan level leads to increased capactity for uptake and retention of dyes.</p>
