<p>A system for detecting and identifying radioactive materials on board a carrier includes a stationary structure (10) extending along the carrier (14) adjacent to at least one of its opposite boards (15). The system has a plurality of passive radiation detection devices (16) arranged along the stationary structure (10) which (16) define zones A-K extending along the stationary structure (10)and are connected to a communication system (a-e) for sending detection findings obtained within a specific zone where an increased radioactivity level has been detected by at least one passive radiation detection device to a control center (60). The system has a material identifier (18) identifying radio nuclides and isotopes which emit radiation within the zone where increased radioactivity level has been detected. The material identifier (18) is connected to the communication system (a-e) for sending information on the types of radioactive materials to the control center (60).</p> |
