<p>A method of transmitting data by a user equipment using a shared uplink wireless communication channel is described. The method comprises: receiving a power grant corresponding to the allowed transmission power on the shared uplink wireless communication channel; receiving a scheduling grant corresponding to whether transmission is allowed on the shared uplink wireless communication channel; and transmitting data on the shared uplink wireless communication channel according to the power grant and the scheduling grant, wherein the power grant is received separately from the scheduling grant. This frees signalling resources as the power grant now only needs to be sent when it is changed, instead of every time a scheduling grant is sent. The above may be used with a High Speed Uplink Packet Access (HSUPA) system where the grant channels are an Enhanced Absolute Grant Channel (E-AGCH) and an Enhanced Relative Grant Channel (E-RGCH).</p> |
