PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To more simply compose a shift lever device in a shift lever device. SOLUTION: First to third coils detect distances to a first copper plate 25. Also, fourth to sixth coils detect distances to a second copper plate 26. Thereby, the position of a shift lever 18 in an X direction is recognized based on the coil that both copper plates 25 and 26 approach most. Also, the second coil 31b and the first copper plate 25 are separated from each other and the fifth coil 31e approaches the second copper plate 26, by moving the shift lever 18 in a Y direction, for example, from an H position to an N position. Thereby, the position of the shift lever 18 in the Y direction can be recognized based on the distances between the coils and both copper plates 25 and 26.
