A road haulage trailer 28 has tail deflectors 38 directing air flow behind trailer 28 during forward movement. Tail deflectors 38 protrude from sides 22 of trailer 28 and extend beyond trailer rear end 42. Each deflector 38 defines a guide surface angled or curved towards a region behind rear end 42 and is preferably a continuation of sides 22. Each deflector may protrude laterally outwardly from a side 22 by at least 50 mm, and each may have a surface comprising a convex curve with radius decreasing from the front to the rear. In an embodiment, a plurality of vortex generators (8150, Figure 16) are provided on each tail deflector (8104, Figure 16). Also disclosed are side fairings (8116, Figure 16) on a tractor unit, an underfloor air deflector on a trailer chassis (464, Figure 6) and a curved air guide 30 on the roof at the front of trailer 28. |
