A backlight device according to the present invention comprises: an LED (28); a light guide plate (20), the long-side end surfaces of which are light incidence surfaces (20A), and the front surface of which is a light emission surface (20B); a reflection sheet (24) covering the entire region of the opposite surface (20C) of the light guide plate (20); a chassis (22) disposed conforming to the plate surface of the light guide plate (20) on the opposite side of the reflection sheet (24) from the light guide plate (20), said chassis (22) having notches (22A) at the edges near the light incidence surfaces (20A); and a rear cabinet (12) disposed on the opposite side of the chassis (22) from the light guide plate (20), said rear cabinet (12) having ribs (12C) projecting from the surface toward the light guide plate (20) and passing through the notches (22A) with the tip ends of the ribs supporting portions of the reflection sheet (24) near the light incidence surfaces (20A). |
