In described examples, a slew rate controlled gate driver circuit (400) generates a gate control signal (VG) that rises substantially in step fashion until reaching a first threshold voltage level (VTH1), whereupon the gate control signal (VG) rises at a controlled slew rate. When the gate control signal (VG) rises beyond a second threshold voltage level (VTH2) that is greater than the first threshold voltage level (VTH1), the gate control signal (VG) again rises substantially in step fashion.
