Easy open and reclosable flexible film package, laminate and method for producing the package

A package comprises a flexible film (22) defining an interior contents cavity and having a first pair of edge portions forming a first seal (38), a second pair of edge portions forming a second seal (36), and a longitudinal seal (40) extending from the first seal (38) to the second seal (36). A score (24) is formed in the flexible film (22) and defining, at least in part, an opening to the interior contents cavity. A closure layer (26) covers the score (24) and a portion of the flexible film around the score, the closure layer (26) extending over more than half of a width of the flexible film. A pressure sensitive adhesive lies between the closure layer (26) and the flexible film (22). The package is opened along the score (24) by partial removal of the closure layer (26) from the flexible film (22) and the extension of the closure layer over more than half the width of the flexible film resists further removal of the closure layer from the flexible film.
