<p>A locking system for a vehicle tailgate having a locked condition in which it prevents opening of a closed tailgate (10, Figure 1) and an unlocked condition, in which it permits opening of a closed tailgate. The locking system comprises a locking bar 20, rotation of which between a locked and an unlocked position causes the locking system to transition between the locked and the unlocked position. An actuator 34 and a linkage 36, 42 are provided. The linkage is operative to transform linear motion of an output component of the actuator 34 to rotary motion of the locking bar 20. When the locking bar 20 is in the locked position, the linkage 36, 42 is arranged such that it prevents a torque applied to the locking bar 20 in a direction from the locked to the unlocked position from causing movement of the locking bar 20 to the unlocked position.</p> |
