PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coating material composition for battery electrodes or separators which can solve the problems of the low battery safety and the short life owing to poor adhesion with an electrode or a separator.SOLUTION: A coating material composition for battery electrodes or separators comprises: a vinyl alcohol-based copolymer having a structural unit expressed by the general formula (1); and an aqueous emulsion of a synthetic resin resulting from the polymerization of copolymerizable monomers including at least one kind of monomers selected from cyclohexyl methacrylate, vinyl versatate and 2-ethyl hexyl acrylate.
