PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide high-yield production of isotropic pitch for carbon fiber having a high softening point even without other catalysts.SOLUTION: The isotropic pitch for carbon fiber is produced by mixing a petroleum residue and a C9 fraction to form a mixture and heating the mixture for thermal polymerization.
