PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an intake system for an internal combustion engine that can inhibit accumulation of deposit on a valve element receiving portion while using a configuration having the recessed valve element receiving portion formed on the vertical lower side of an intake passage.SOLUTION: A valve element 13 in which a valve portion 46 enabling opening/closing of part of a passage cross sectional area of an intake passage 10 constituted by a passage component portion 23 is formed to offset a rotating axis P in the radial direction is rotatably supported within the passage component portion 23 of a housing 11 that is mounted to an opening end surface of an intake port 2a of a cylinder head 2. A valve element receiving portion 50 for receiving a valve element 13 is arranged on the wall surface on the vertical lower side of the passage component portion 23. A communication passage 60 for directly communicating the valve element receiving portion 50 with the intake port 2a is arranged in the housing 11.
