The purpose of the present invention is to provide: a silica glass crucible which does not undergo deformation even when used under high temperature conditions for a long period of time; and a method for manufacturing the silica glass crucible. A silica glass crucible which is provided with an approximately cylindrical straight trunk part that has an opened upper end and extends in a vertical direction, a curved bottom part, and a corner part that connects the straight trunk part to the bottom part and has a larger curvature than that of the bottom part. The silica glass crucible is provided with: a compressive stress layer which comprises a transparent layer on the inside and a bubble-containing layer on the outside, wherein a compressive stress remains on the inner surface side of the transparent layer; and a tensile stress layer which is located adjacent to the compressive stress layer with a modest stress change rate and in which a tensile stress remains. |
