The present invention relates to a mobile terminal and, more particularly, to a mobile terminal and method for providing a multilateral conversation environment. To achieve this, a method for controlling a multilateral conversation in a mobile terminal comprises the steps of: sensing an event for a one-on-one conversation with a specific person during a multilateral conversation; activating a one-on-one conversation function in response to sensing the event; and transmitting data inputted to an input window to the specific person based on the activated one-on-one conversation function.
