The aircraft has a trimming device for trimming a lift, and an automatic piloting system (PA) including a control unit (MCA) for controlling altitude of the aircraft. A development unit (MECP) develops position commands of the lift and develops position commands of the trimming device. The altitude control unit includes an adding unit (MA) for adding a constant supplementary value (VA) to the position commands of the trimming device based on structural parameters and flight parameters of the aircraft. An independent claim is also included for a method for piloting an aircraft using an automatic piloting system.
