PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus that can sufficiently cool a recording material on which an image is thermally fixed for the first time after the transition from a standby state to image forming operation, while reducing the power consumption of a cooling and conveying device that cools a recording medium after the thermal fixing while holding and conveying with a conveyance belt.SOLUTION: A cooling and conveying device 100 cooling, while holding and conveying, paper P after thermal fixing includes external heat radiation means 180 in a liquid cooling system as cooling means of a cooling member 140. When a printer 300 is in a standby state, the cooling and conveying device 100 controls to stop the drive of a driving roller 173 driving a liquid feeding pump 182 and an air blowing fan 185 of the external heat radiation means 180 and conveyance belts of a belt conveyance mechanism.
