A fuel injector for an internal combustion engine includes a fuel injection valve, a heater, and a controller. The fuel injection valve is configured to supply fuel to the internal combustion engine. The heater is configured to heat the fuel in the fuel injection valve. The controller is configured to: (a) control the fuel injection valve to stop supplying the fuel to the internal combustion engine, (b) control the heater to execute or stop heating the fuel in the fuel injection valve, and (c) control the fuel injection valve to prohibit the stop of supplying the fuel during execution of the heating by the heater.
